Description

Although the planned live album from the 1972 tour was ultimately cancelled, the recordings made during that time spawned numerous titles that have since become legendary among collectors—such as the famous *Philly Special* and *Fort Worth* releases. *Keep Your Motor Runnin’* is another title derived from this same cache of leaked material; while it boasts superb sound quality, it differs from the previously known soundboard leaks by featuring overdubs—clear evidence that actual work toward an official release had been underway. While the core of the album features the July 20, 1972, Philadelphia performance, it also incorporates “best takes” from various other shows; although it does not replicate the exact setlist of any single concert, the tracklist—opening with “Brown Sugar” and closing with “Satisfaction”—creates a cohesive live album experience. A particular highlight is the medley of “Uptight” and “Satisfaction,” which features a guest appearance by Stevie Wonder; the arrangement is incredibly funky, strongly reflecting Stevie’s influence. Disc 2 includes a soundboard recording of “Dead Flowers” from the same tour—a track that didn’t make the cut for Disc 1—alongside audience recordings of rare songs also omitted from the first disc: “Sweet Black Angel,” “Honky Tonk Women,” “Loving Cup,” “Torn And Frayed,” and “Ventilator Blues.” Additionally, it includes five songs (six takes) from the tour rehearsals held in Switzerland on May 28, 1972. This release offers exceptional soundboard audio from the Rolling Stones’ 1972 US tour—essentially an unreleased live album in its own right. Includes soundboard recordings intended for a live album, a collaboration with Stevie Wonder on “Satisfaction,” a soundboard recording of “Dead Flowers” (which was left off the official release), other rare tracks from the same tour, and six takes from tour rehearsals in Switzerland.
