Description
A rare recording has emerged, capturing the second night of a London tour in June 1984, shortly after the addition of new guitarist John Valentine Carruzas! This rare recording captures the entire live performance at the Brixton Academy, a venue in South London with a capacity of approximately 2300 people, on June 9, 1984, shortly after the addition of new guitarist John Valentine Carruzas, who joined the band for the EP “THE THORN,” released in October 1984, following Robert Smith’s departure. The audio was digitally transferred from a low-generation master, resulting in a wide dynamic range and a well-balanced, stable sound for the time, with vocals and all other parts being of superior quality. Furthermore, any positional discrepancies caused by the master have been carefully corrected. This was the second of two consecutive performances at Brixton Academy. While the first night’s recording was available on the label’s previously released album, “BRIXTON ACADEMY 84 (TOTH2865),” in high-quality stereo audience recording format, this is the first time the second night’s recording has been released. The show opens with “Dazzle,” featuring a long version of the string intro. The setlist features four songs from the album “Hyaena,” released that day, as well as a Beatles cover, “Dear Prudence,” a single released the previous year. “Red Over White” from the EP “THE THORN,” released in October of the same year, is also played. You can enjoy a powerful performance in high quality, where new guitarist John’s kaleidoscopic guitar playing, which is surprisingly sophisticated for someone who had just joined the band, blends seamlessly into the mix!
