In November 1980, a classic item featuring a high-quality stereo soundboard recording of the San Francisco performance from the US tour immediately following the release of the masterpiece “Kaleidoscope” was re-released with the latest digital transfer and remastering! The recording of the San Francisco performance at the California Hall from the US tour immediately following the release of their third album, the critically acclaimed “Kaleidoscope,” was originally a high-quality stereo soundboard recording from an FM broadcast source. While previous releases such as “KUSF-FM BROADCAST 1980” and a semi-official (?) version with pitch issues offered a rough mix that created a raw, powerful sound, this recording suffered from problems such as an extremely loud bass, poor balance between vocals and guitar, and the presence of noise. This release uses a newly digitally transferred master from the master cassette, correcting the aforementioned problems as much as possible, remastering, and noise reduction to upgrade the sound quality to an even clearer level! In addition, pitch discrepancies caused by the master have also been carefully corrected. This live performance by the newly reformed Bangees, featuring former Slits drummer Budgie as an official member and former Magazine guitarist John McGough, includes a setlist featuring seven songs from ‘Kaleidoscope’. It’s also worth noting that the new Bangees, with Budgie and McGough, perform tracks from their previous two albums. There seemed to be monitor issues that night, with Suzi having trouble hearing her own voice, prompting her to ask the audience if they could hear her properly. The recording also vividly captures Suzi’s angry outbursts at the audience—a remnant of the punk movement—including fights and spitting on stage, prompting her to shout, “Stop spitting! Do something original, like a handstand!” This superb live performance, with its minimal lineup, delivers a truly “kaleidoscope” sound, significantly upgraded!
