This is a superb audience recording of Sheila E.’s live performance at Menlo Park on February 8, 2026. While there are covers of Sly Stone, the Pointer Sisters, and P-Funk, it’s especially delightful to hear so many Prince-esque songs. She plays The Beatles’ “Come Together” (which Prince also played), Prince’s “Leader of the Band,” and even some more obscure tracks like “The Word” from the album 3121. The Latin flavor of “Get On the Boat,” which Sheila also recorded, shines through even in her band’s repertoire. Then there’s “Holly Rock,” introduced by an MC mentioning the movie “Crash Groove,” the powerful synth riff of “The Belle of St. Mark,” and the groovy “Love on a Blue Train,” which is cleverly rearranged as “Love on an E Train.” From “A Love Bizarre,” to the studio-style “Girls & Boys,” and “It’s Gonna Be A Beautiful Night,” Sheila’s unique touch makes for a wonderful performance. Controversy, which might be even funkier than Prince’s version, the development of Alphabet St., and the transition from Sheila’s song Rockstar to Purple Rain brought tears to my eyes. Erotic City, the first song Sheila ever sang, Let’s Work, Prince’s live staples U Got the Look, America (which Sheila covered with a live arrangement from that era), a beautiful performance of Free, and Baby I’m a Star brought the house down, culminating in a grand finale with The Glamorous Life. This was a Prince extravaganza concert.
