This release features a 1 hour and 34 minute recording of the August 15th Providence concert from Santana’s North American tour following his legendary visit to Japan in 1973, the year he became known for “Lotus.” The recording comes from a soundboard source leaked by someone involved at the time. While it lacks some of the live atmosphere, it is completely unprocessed and unedited, allowing Santana’s guitar, keyboards, and percussion to resonate with a realistic, live sound, and the subtle nuances of the band’s ensemble to come through directly. The setlist is almost identical to his Japanese performance two months earlier, and tracks like “Flor De Canela” can only be heard here. Although a few songs towards the end of the show are missing, making it incomplete, it perfectly recreates the passionate performance from his prime.
