This title couples the now-rare collaboration tour with the best quality audio and video. The CD features a full 2-hour and 10-minute recording of the live performance at the Nice Jazz Festival held in Nice, France on July 9, 1988, using stereo soundboard audio from the original FM broadcast master. This collaboration tour between Santana and Wayne Shorter consisted of only 29 performances in Europe that summer, and an official release, “LIVE AT THE MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL 1988,” was also released from that period, but this release also uses the best master from the aircheck, so the quality is comparable. Furthermore, the video features a performance at the “Pori Jazz Festival” held in Finland on July 17 of the same year, coupled with the Finnish broadcast and the latter half broadcast in Poland, totaling 1 hour and 30 minutes. Due to broadcasting constraints, one song, “Hong Kong Blues,” is duplicated, but otherwise, it reproduces the flow of the live performance almost exactly as it was on that day. The live performance, which combined Santana’s and Shorter’s respective repertoires, featured an approach that fused Latin rock and jazz, and included not only original songs but also special tracks prepared for this tour, such as “Wayne II,” as well as rare numbers like “Serpentine Fire” and “Cavatina.” The performance by Shorter’s band, including Alphonso Johnson, was also superb, and this collaboration between the two legends, which can now be called a miracle, is presented here with the best sound and visuals.
