Description

The first night at Cow Palace during the 1975 US tour was a legendary audience performance. The audience recording from this night, along with the preceding series of shows at the LA Forum, boasts superb sound quality, and under the name “IT’S ONLY ROCK’N ROLL,” numerous items were released, becoming widely known among fans. It was so popular that one might even call it the “IORR source.” However, another audience recording from this night also exists. In fact, it was released even before the IORR source, and it conveyed the brilliance of this live performance even more effectively. Moreover, it has the significant advantage of including a complete recording of “Rip This Joint,” which is severely lacking in the IORR source. This recording was released on an LP titled “…SAD SONGS IS ALL I KNOW,” but it was unfortunately overlooked with the emergence of the superior sound quality of the IORR source. This previously overlooked recording was never released in its entirety on tape. More than 10 years ago, the CD version of “…SAD SONGS IS ALL I KNOW” was released, correcting the track order that was a flaw of the LP and filling in the missing tracks from the IORR source to include all the songs. However, this summer, the familiar Waz From Oz made a shocking discovery: a second-generation copy from Brad Blanck’s master reel containing the original tape source for the LP! While this recording has a more moody sound quality compared to the IORR source, the quiet surroundings create a very pleasant listening experience. In fact, the contrast between the wildness of the performance and the quiet atmosphere is so striking that you might mistakenly think the show wasn’t very exciting that day. This ease of listening was actually appreciated by fans as a different kind of charm compared to the IORR source, but as expected from the original tape that formed the basis of the LP, the sound quality has clearly improved this time around. Even “If You Can’t Rock Me – Get Off Of My Cloud,” a performance that was a rare and exceptional one not only on this day but throughout the entire tour, is at a level where the instability and noise that were noticeable on the LP are no longer noticeable, which is thanks to it being a copy from the master reel, even if it’s second generation. And above all, not only is the track order accurate, but it also includes songs that were cut from the LP due to the recording time constraints of a double LP, which is a huge plus. It’s truly special to be able to listen to the entire live performance from a single source. Moreover, the opening track “Fanfare For The Common Man” is included for longer than on the LP, so it’s just all good. The entire live performance is finished in a state where you can listen to it with peace of mind. Unlike the IORR source, what’s amazing about this recording is that there are no cuts that encroach on the performance except for Billy’s songs. Grafzeppelin meticulously adjusted only the cuts that occurred between songs from the IORR source. When the 2012 LP reissue was released, the IORR source was used to fill in each song, but this time it’s only the gaps between songs, which is also amazing. Until now, these ancient LP recordings had been overshadowed by the IORR source. But now, these previously hidden gems have finally appeared in their complete form, and in the strongest possible state: a second-generation copy from the master reel. “GRAF ZEPPELIN” has further refined them to make them the most enjoyable. The complete tape of the ancient LP “…SAD SONGS IS ALL I KNOW” (2LP) is now available in a new transfer! Tracks not included on the LP are also included for the first time! Missing parts have been filled in with other sources (see track list below). Other duplicate recordings have been edited and restored uncut in two places (just before “You Can’t” and between songs after “Fingerprint”). The audio has noticeable crackling in the left channel, but the overall characteristic is that there are few cuts. The low pitch and the rightward-shifted phase have been corrected. The EQ was not boosted too much in the high frequencies, taking into account the hiss in the left channel. 2nd Generation Transfer From Brad Blanck’s Master Reel To Reels Waz From Oz Archives Upgrade!!
