Description
This 1 hour and 25 minute recording captures a studio live performance from Wallingford, Connecticut, on March 27th, during their 1975 North American tour following the release of “No Mystery” with Di Meola joining the band. The FM broadcast master soundboard recording has been digitally remastered in 2026. Originally, the recording was divided into two parts, the first and second sets, so there were some differences in tone between the parts. The remastering process unified these differences, and noise reduction and other measures were applied to adjust the overall balance, resulting in a consistent sound that faithfully reproduces the performance from that day. The set begins with the refreshing sound of electric piano, such as in “Dayride,” but then develops into a funky rhythm that gets the audience moving, with Di Meola showcasing his signature Spanish guitar playing throughout. Compared to their earlier work, the Latin influences have diminished considerably, and while their sound would become even more metallic later on, a funky element still remains at this stage. Within this context, the foundation for their future as a technical jazz-rock group, utilizing Di Meola’s phenomenal guitar playing and Stanley Clarke’s slap and chord techniques, can be found.
