Description

From their 1978 Japan tour, their second visit to Japan, the January 27th performance at Sapporo Nakajima Sports Center is now available on CD in its entirety, fully remastered form. This recording captures not only the band’s history but also the atmosphere of a venue where a significant event occurred in the history of Japanese rock concerts, with every detail digitally remastered. The conversations of fans and staff during the performance of “Mistreated,” which were cut for various reasons, are all preserved in their original form, making this a crucial historical document of that day. The sound and recording capture the atmosphere of the floor with the most raw realism in the entire performance, surprising and shocking every listener. In particular, the enthusiastic excitement of the audience and the commotion in the venue are directly felt, and the shouts of “Get down!” and angry voices flying around during the performance depict a chaotic scene that is beyond the listener’s imagination. However, during “Long Live Rock’n Roll,” the audience excitedly shouted, “It’s a new song! A new song!”, and during “Man On The Silver Mountain,” some audience members sang along not only to the lyrics but also to the riffs, showing a genuine passion for music. In the latter half of the show, when the atmosphere in the venue had calmed down, the performance was captured with a wonderful soundscape unique to the floor, and the sheer power of “Still I’m Sad” is recorded with some of the best sound quality of recordings from that era. After the main set ended, there was a rather long encore break (presumably the band was forced to make a last-minute decision about whether or not to do an encore), after which Ritchie played the intro in a serious mood, as if to calm the frenzy in the venue. Then, in a sudden shift, “Do You Close Your Eyes” burst forth, with Ritchie and the band’s wild playing exploding, bringing the show to a powerful close in true Rainbow fashion. The Nakajima Sports Center, the venue for this recording, closed in 2000, and now only its remnants remain. However, the recording allows you to experience the raw, unadulterated events of that day. This recording is an indispensable document for understanding the January 27th Sapporo performance, possessing immense historical value as a record of what happened inside the venue. Preserving an unshakeable record as historical evidence for future generations [Recorded at Sapporo Nakanoshima Sports Center, Sapporo, Japan 27th January 1978 Disc 1: 1. Over The Rainbow 2.
