Description

This recording captures the final show of a three-night run at Hammersmith in London on April 26th, from the UK leg of Robert Fripp’s first solo tour, which was accompanied by his debut solo album in 1977. The recording was made from a recently unearthed soundboard recording. While it lacks some of the live feel, such as the absence of the final track “Back In NYC,” the unprocessed sound is incredibly realistic, clearly reproducing even the subtle nuances of the band’s ensemble. Perhaps because he had only released one album at the time, his repertoire was limited, as all the songs from that album were performed, plus “Here Comes The Flood” was played twice, along with tracks from his next album such as “On The Air” and “A Song Without Words (Indigo).” The performance is truly powerful, especially with Fripp’s guitar added to the ensemble, and it’s a superb piece that allows you to fully appreciate his combination with Gabriel and the playing of other talented members like Tony Levin.
