Description

A high-quality stereo soundboard recording of their Pennsylvania concert in May 1979, just before their hiatus, has been released as an FM broadcast recording, and is now available in a newly remastered version! This FM broadcast recording captures a live performance held on May 13, 1979, four days before the release of their fourth masterpiece, “WAVE,” at The Tower Theater in Upper Derby, Pennsylvania, which has a capacity of approximately 3,100 people. The mix and balance are impeccable, and the sound quality is crystal clear. While several bootleg recordings have circulated since the analog era, they all suffered from pitch inaccuracies. Of course, this release has been carefully corrected, addressing pitch discrepancies caused by the master recording and the inconsistent positioning between songs. This long set, divided into two parts with an intermission, includes MC segments where the band members talk about living in Philadelphia (Upper Derby is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area) for several years during their childhood, and mentions that their mother, friends, and family are in the audience. She also performed “Hang On To Tomorrow” from the musical “Annie” with an unexpected arrangement, a song that was reportedly one of her mother’s favorites at the time. The setlist featured songs from her then-new album “WAVE,” which was an even bigger hit than her previous work, including the singles “Frederick” and “Dancing Barefoot.” You can fully enjoy her superb performance in high-quality sound, including rare covers such as the single B-side “5-4-3-2-1,” a cover of Manfred Mann’s song that was not included on the album, and a cover of The Ronettes’ classic “Be My Baby”!
