This release features a complete soundboard recording of the performance at the Benicàssim International Festival in Spain. During this period, Noel quit the band in the middle of the *Standing on the Shoulder of Giants* tour, enraged by Liam—who had hurled an unforgivable insult by asking, “Is Anaïs really your child?” Although Noel eventually returned, this incident fueled rumors that the band would split up at the tour’s final show in Leeds. The cover art features a photo from the day; as you can see, Noel is missing from the right side of the frame. Matt Deighton stepped in on rhythm guitar, while Gem truly came into his own on lead guitar. This unconventional lineup resulted in a performance that stands out as unique within the tour. Just as a company keeps running even when a key figure leaves, the concert proceeded as usual without Noel. The only real difference was the exclusion of songs Noel usually sang (though it would have been a rare treat to hear Liam sing “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” for instance); instead, the performance offered a fresh flavor—such as the extended guitar solo on “Champagne Supernova”—making it an intriguing listen in its own right. Additionally, the version of “Acquiesce” included here is a rarity where the backing track plays during Noel’s vocal parts (karaoke style). Two different recordings of the Benicàssim festival exist; this release utilizes a high-quality, perfect stereo soundboard recording that was unearthed years later. Since Noel’s vocal tracks were dropped due to the lineup change, these 14 songs constitute the complete performance from that day. Noel and Anaïs are the spitting image of one another—no DNA test required—making Liam’s insult truly inexcusable. Yet, for fans, the situation evokes mixed feelings: while the insult was unforgivable, it did result in a rare concert experience where the band performed without Noel.
