Description
This release couples a live performance from the 1986 European tour, specifically the jazz festival held in Belgrade, the capital of the Republic of Serbia, on October 26th, with audio and video (Blu-ray) featuring the latest 2026 mastering. The CD contains the full 1 hour and 57 minute recording of the day’s performance, using the TV broadcast master and newly mastered soundboard audio. The Blu-ray, on the other hand, is also from the TV broadcast master quality, using professionally shot video. While the video quality is inevitably inferior to modern digital video considering the video conditions in Eastern Europe at the time, it has been corrected and mastered to the best possible quality currently available. The performance itself is exactly the same as on the CD, and the Blu-ray’s large capacity is utilized to reproduce the day’s performance in the original HD quality. The concert itself is fantastic, with Miles Davis in top form throughout, and especially tenor and soprano saxophonist Bob Berg in top form. The interplay between Miles and Berg, with Miles sharply interjecting phrases into Berg’s playing, is superb. The sounds he creates around this time have a jazz flavor that suggests the influence of legends of yesteryear, and that’s where he differs from Kenny, who would later join Miles’ band. Also, in the familiar “Human Nature,” while the later Kenny era version would end with a lengthy saxophone solo, here it features a guitar solo by Garth Weber. Although the band was in a transitional period, Miles himself was in top form, and this 1986 live recording, full of sharp hits, is a must-listen.
