It utilizes a recently digitized, superior audience master source, enhanced with state-of-the-art equipment for pitch correction and hiss reduction, alongside precise adjustments to the gaps between tracks. Although Miles’s form fluctuated significantly during this period, he was in excellent shape on this day—just as he had been the day before—playing energetically from the very opening; the moment the band surged together into “Maze” (a new song at the time) is truly thrilling. The set includes a spirited solo on “Time After Time” and a deeply moving rendition of the John McLaughlin ballad that anchors the latter half of the show. While the recording concludes with a fade-out, it documents a pivotal era—marking the final period of John Scofield’s tenure—characterized by a unique interplay: Vince’s drums and Miles’s synthesizers generated digital-style rhythms, while guitarist John Scofield and bassist Darryl Jones freely constructed their own phrases and lines.
