This definitive release marks the first time the Osaka Festival Hall concerts—held on May 25 and 26, 1983, as part of the world tour that kicked off in Denver on January 29—have been issued on CD, utilizing a remaster created by a renowned overseas Miles Davis enthusiast. A look back at the 1983 Japan tour schedule reveals the following dates: May 18 (Sapporo), May 20 (Sendai/Miyagi Prefectural Hall), May 24 (Nagoya/City Public Hall), May 25 (Osaka/Festival Hall), May 26 (Osaka/Festival Hall), and May 29 (Tokyo/Yomiuri-Land EAST). Notably, the Osaka performance on May 26 took place on Miles’s 57th birthday. The “Jazz Master” edition released 25 years ago was based on an audience recording that suffered from significant age-related degradation—including issues with balance, pitch, and noise—stemming from a direct digital transfer of the original cassette. For this remastered edition, the recording from the 25th has been corrected by lowering the left channel by 1.03 dB to fix the stereo balance. Additionally, the tape speed was adjusted down by approximately 70 cents, successfully restoring the degraded audio. Hiss noise has also been minimized to the greatest extent possible, ensuring a completely stress-free listening experience. This superb release captures the realistic soundscape of a stage where distinctive guitarists John Scofield and Mike Stern vied for the spotlight, allowing listeners to fully experience the groove of the Miles Davis band in a way that was never possible with the previous release.
