Description
This release features a nearly complete recording of the August 3rd performance at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles during the 1982 US tour, which marked Miles’ full-fledged comeback. The audience master recording has been digitally remastered in 2026, resulting in a nearly complete 1.5-hour recording. Two previously incomplete audience sources were seamlessly spliced together to create a nearly complete version, with each source remastered and balance adjusted to achieve the best possible quality currently available. This tour, featuring the so-called “comeback band” after a five-year hiatus, marked a period when the band, including Miles, was in considerably better form. The performance, while consisting of only five lengthy numbers, features a selection from “The Man With The Horn” that is unusual for this period, as it mainly consists of solo improvisations. In contrast to Miles’ somewhat subdued demeanor, Mike Stern’s crisp rhythmic footwork and fluid solo phrases, along with Marcus Miller’s powerful, driving bass, are truly impressive, making this an album that allows you to rediscover the brilliance of Miles in the 80s.
