Description

This is a beautifully recorded live performance from the Marciac Jazz Festival in France, held during 1998 as part of a European tour five months before Petrucciani’s death. The recording was made from a pristine master recording that was digitally rebroadcast in 2019. Michel Petrucciani, the first European pianist to sign with the prestigious Blue Note Records and hailed as France’s greatest pianist, performed with a trio consisting of Anthony Jackson and Steve Gadd. While footage of their Stuttgart performance from the same tour had been officially released, this Marciac performance is incomparably superior. Moreover, since it uses a rebroadcast recording as the master, the sound quality is outstanding. Except for “Take the ‘A’ Train” and “So Fat,” all tracks are original compositions by Petrucciani. The delicate tones and sometimes exhilarating touches during the live performance make it impossible for anyone to imagine that he would sadly pass away just five months later. This live recording is a masterpiece that allows you to fully appreciate a precious performance in his homeland of France, to which Petrucciani dedicated his heart and soul.
