This 1 hour and 48 minute recording captures the special 716-day performance in Brunei, held prior to the start of the 1996 “HIStory World Tour,” in fully official-quality pro-shot footage with digital 4K mastering. While official releases such as “BRUNEI 1996 NEW YEAR’S EVE LD” are known for their Brunei performances that year, that was a New Year’s Eve concert after the tour had started. In contrast, this title is a special free concert held a month and a half before the tour began, celebrating the 50th birthday of the Sultan of Brunei. Although parts of this concert have been distributed, this release uses the best master and has been given the latest digital 4K mastering, resulting in a quality comparable to modern digital video. In addition, the monaural audio has been upgraded to perfect stereo soundboard, making it hard to believe this is analog-era footage. This special concert included several songs not seen on the “HIStory World Tour,” and not only were signature numbers like “Human Nature,” “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” and “She’s Out Of My Life” not included in the setlist for subsequent tours, but this night also marked Michael’s last performance of these songs. Furthermore, the overall structure of the show was similar to the “Dangerous World Tour,” which took place before the tour. Other notable differences included “Man In The Mirror,” which was omitted from the setlist for the main tour, while “You Are Not Alone” and “Earth Song” were performed live for the first time on this night.
