Description

This 72-minute recording captures a live performance at a church in New York on November 17th during their 1973 US tour, coinciding with the release of “Introducing The Eleventh House With Larry Coryell,” arguably the hardest jazz-rock period of Coryell’s career. The recording boasts remarkably good audience quality for its time. As evidenced by Coryell’s approach to assembling the band and creating the album with McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu in mind, it’s pure hard jazz/rock, with Coryell throughout delivering a performance that transforms a rugged, heavy-gauge jazz guitarist into a veritable blast of hard rock. The opening track, “Yin,” features Randy Brecker’s trumpet, guitar, and noisy synthesizers in a fast-paced jazz-rock style, fueled by Alphonse Muzon’s ferocious drumming, resulting in a dynamic and energetic interplay. While “Joyride” offers a slightly more mellow fusion feel, the rest of the album showcases the band’s unified and exhilarating playing.
