Description
Eric Carr’s final full show! A breathtaking record…! Eric Carr, the drum hero who brought glory to KISS in the 80s and tragically passed away at the young age of 41, has had a treasure trove of a master recording of his final full show discovered. This release contains two powerful audience recordings born from a single show. It’s a three-disc set with the full recording of the “November 9, 1990 Madison Square Garden performance” on DISC 1 and 2, and a powerful shot on DISC 3. Of course, as a store that has handled the entire history of KISS, we have also archived as many masterpieces as possible from Eric Carr’s final activity, the “HOT IN THE SHADE Tour.” Let’s also take this opportunity to review the overview of their activities at the time and the position of this release. 1989 (October 17: “HOT IN THE SHADE” released) 1990 March 11 – April 25: Warm-up (3 shows) ← *THE STONE PONY 1990 May 4 – August 8: North America #1 (64 shows) ← *DETROIT MAY 1990 August 16 – November 9: North America #2 (57 shows) ← ★HERE★ 1991 (November 24: Eric Carr dies) This is the timeline from the release of “HOT IN THE SHADE” to the death of Eric Carr. The MSG performance on this album was the 57th show of “North America #2,” which was the final day of the tour. No one could have imagined that this would be Eric’s last performance, but as it turned out, this album is a historic live set that records his last full show. DISC 1-2: New recordings released to commemorate the 35th anniversary of his death. The recording and video for this release were provided by the legendary taping group “NYBG (New York Bootleg Group),” which was active in the New York area from the 80s to the 90s. This prestigious group has recorded countless shows, including those of KISS, and this year, the 35th anniversary of Eric Carr’s death, they have released the master recording of his memorial last gig. The sound is a powerful sound with a strong core that hits you straight away. It’s not the type that can be mistaken for a soundboard recording, but there is absolutely no sense of distance. The dense, on-stage performance sound comes rushing in like a wall right in front of you. If you listen with headphones, you can also notice the hall’s resonance, but because the core’s thrust is so strong, it feels like the core reaches your ears before the edges are rounded by the resonance. In particular, each of Eric Carr’s percussive sounds is sharply defined, and the details are so delicate that if you close your eyes, you can almost see the structure of the drum kit. With such powerful recording, there are moments where it seems like the sound is about to distort, but it’s amazing how it stops just short of that. The sound is so full of Eric’s presence, as if he’s preparing for the future that awaits him. DVD: Powerful close-ups bring the stage right to your eyes In addition to the full recording, this release also includes audience shots from the same day on DISC 3. These are also masters recorded and released by “NYBG”. Their unique feature is the intense sense of closeness, as if the stage is right in front of you. Filmed from the stands on the right side of the stage (Bruce Kulick’s side), you can enjoy the aggressive actions typical of their no-makeup era from a height slightly above the band members on stage. And the daring zooms are incredibly powerful. When you zoom out, you can see that it’s about a medium distance, but the aggressive zooms from there bring each band member to the full screen. Moreover, the master’s freshness is remarkable. There is absolutely no distortion, noise, or warping from dubbing, and there are no compression marks like those found on some video sites. From edge to edge of the screen, the image is vibrant and fresh, maintaining its beautifully detailed resolution even during intensely daring zooms, and the colors are perfectly natural. It’s probably a direct transfer from the original master. The fresh visual beauty is so striking that it’s hard to imagine anything else. Eric Carr’s final grand performance is deeply moving. This full live album and powerful video depict Eric Carr’s final grand performance at his hometown venue, MSG. Here, let’s organize this historic final set by comparing it with the iconic “HOT IN THE SHADE Tour” works, “DETROIT MAY 1990 UPGRADE” and “DETROIT MAY 1990 SOUNDBOARD.” 70s Classics (12 songs) – KISS: Deuce / Black Diamond / Cold Gin – DESTROYER: Shout It Out Loud / God Of Thunder / Detroit Rock City – Others: I Stole Your Love / Calling Dr. Love / I Was Made for Lovin’ You (★) / Love Gun / I Want You / Rock And Roll All Nite 80s (9 songs) – LICK IT UP: Fits Like A Glove / Lick It Up (CD version only) – HOT IN THE SHADE: Rise To It / Hide Your Heart / Forever – Others: Heaven’s On Fire / Crazy Crazy Nights / Tears Are Falling / I Love It Loud *Note: Songs marked with “★” were not included in the classic pro-shot albums ‘DETROIT MAY 1990 UPGRADE’ / ‘DETROIT MAY 1990 SOUNDBOARD’. No one knew this would be the last time. Even so, Eric gave his all until the very last hit. The newly unearthed “NYBG” master, released on the 35th anniversary of his death, brings the atmosphere of that deeply moving full show right to your room. That last night, when the thunder of “THE FOX” ceased forever. This 3-disc set features a powerful audience recording and stunning audience shots of Eric Carr’s final full show, the MSG performance on November 9, 1990.
