1969 was a pivotal period in Jarrett’s career, just before he joined Miles Davis’s electric band. It’s extremely interesting because the recording captures a performance that, while deeply rooted in the traditions of acoustic jazz, also conveys a sense of dynamism moving towards the next era. It captures the youthful exuberance and creative moments, quite different from the meditative and structured image of Jarrett established in his later ECM works.
