Keith Jarrett Trio/Italy 07.23.2012

The performance that day was enveloped in a unique atmosphere where serenity and tension coexisted simultaneously. Keith’s melodies were no longer melodies, but “will.” Peacock embraced that will, making the lines float as if defying gravity, and DeJohnette did not merely mark time, but “sculpted time itself.” Particularly noteworthy was the thrill of deconstruction and reconstruction in standard tunes. The process of deviating from the theme presentation, sliding into complete improvisation, and then returning to the original form was organic, like a long suite, and yet completely flawless.
