Description
In 2011, Jazz A Juan was held in Antibes, in the south of France. On a stage enveloped in the Mediterranean night air, the sounds of the three musicians slowly rose. In the quiet concentration of the audience, the first chord of the piano resonated as if measuring the space. Jarrett’s piano did not merely present the melody. At times, he placed notes like questions, or like monologues, and Pecock’s bass gave a soft outline to the spaces in between. DeJohnette’s drums did not so much mark the passage of time as they subtly wavered the flow, giving breath to the music. The sounds of the three musicians, which existed only in that moment, along with the Mediterranean breeze and the silence of the audience, slowly filled time.
