Description
In 1996, Keith Richards performed 17 shows with his trio in the first half of the year and 5 solo shows in the second half. He first embarked on a spring tour of Japan with his trio, followed by a summer tour of Europe with the same trio. This release captures the second day of that European tour, July 6, 1996, in Brussels, Belgium, with the label’s meticulous mastering to produce high-quality sound. This is the first title in the Keith Trio’s live archives, which generally lacks titles with good sound quality, to feature near-top-tier high-quality sound! The setlist includes 10 songs, including rare tracks such as “Night and Day,” “Come Rain or Come Shine,” “I’ll Remember April,” “The Masquerade Is Over,” “I Fall in Love Too Easily,” “John’s Abbey,” “Tonk,” “I Thought About You,” “Straight No Chaser,” and “When I Fall in Love.” The entire 1.5-hour performance is included! The way they reinterpret famous jazz standards and present them as if they were their own original compositions is truly a new kind of trio jazz. They do perform original trio compositions, but the line between the two is blurred. This performance showcases a level of sensibility, refined taste, and mutual trust that goes beyond mere technique—a perfect combination of elements that can only be achieved in this state! This is an extremely valuable, high-quality recording capturing every detail of the three musicians’ playing! A must-listen for Keith Richards and standards fans, as well as piano trio and jazz fans!
