This release captures a solo performance from the 2009 world tour—specifically the concert at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples—using a high-quality audience recording. That year began with a tour across the United States from spring through summer. Starting in July, the artist performed at jazz festivals in countries such as France and Spain with the familiar trio of Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette; the concert in Lucerne, Switzerland, on July 11 was subsequently released as the official live album *Somewhere*. The Naples show featured here was one of the solo performances that followed that period, clearly reproducing a world of improvisation defined by the palpable tension unique to a solo setting.
