Description
A CD featuring a high-quality audience recording of a 1994 Paris, France performance by John Patitucci, one of the greatest jazz bassists of our time, and saxophonist Chris Potter, in a powerful quartet, has been released. The inclusion of a 6-string bass seamlessly blends complex melodies with dynamic rhythms, expressing a richer harmonic texture. These two highly skilled musicians create a beautiful world that dominates time and space, offering a true taste of jazz. Patitucci’s (b) performance, sometimes sharp and precise with overwhelming drive, sometimes a slightly sticky, spiritual, and passionately sung emotion, and at other times switching to electric bass for a full-on funky groove, provides dazzling moments of positive energy and liberating power, while Potter, who is essentially the star of the show, shines throughout. Potter’s (ts,ss) cheerful, generous, and emotionally rich, incredibly colorful, swinging improvisational skills—his unrestrained and completely burnt-out performance (Potter is a free-spirited and solitary genius who boasts outstanding skill and a refined, high level of sensibility, but in this work, he never tries to be something he’s not, and his straightforward, honest, and sincere attitude is very admirable!) shines brightly, creating an undeniably refreshing and exhilaratingly rich and bountiful experience.
