J. Geils Band / NY, USA 09.19.2012 Soundboard Edition

This recording captures the nearly complete 1 hour and 56 minute performance from the September 19th Port Chester, New York show of their 2012 North American tour, which began without J. Geils, using a soundboard recording leaked by someone involved at the time. This is a direct-connection soundboard recording from the mixing console, recently released by staff at the time. While it lacks some of the live atmosphere, it is completely unprocessed and unedited, allowing the vocals, guitars, and keyboards to resonate with a realistic, live sound, and the subtle nuances of the band’s ensemble to come through directly. The live performance covers their entire career, from their debut album to 80s hits like “Freeze-Frame” and “Centerfold,” and it’s surprising that they play seven songs from their first album, as well as other songs that were never performed live on subsequent reunion tours. They continued performing without J. Geils for approximately three years until 2015, at which point their activities ended. Geils himself passed away in 2017. Given this history, recordings of reunited live performances by original members such as Peter Wolf and Magic Dick are limited, making this a must-have item for longtime fans.
