Herbie Hancock Wayne Shorter Dave Holland Brian Blade/Tokyo,Japan 09.18.2004 FM Broadcast Edition & more

This release couples audio and video footage of the 2004 Japan tour by a super quartet consisting of Miles Davis’s protégés Herbie Hancock, William Shorter, David Holland, and Brian Blade. The CD features a 66-minute soundboard recording of their performance at “Tokyo Jazz 2004” held at Tokyo Big Sight on September 18th, while the DVD uses a TV broadcast master and is a 69-minute pro-shot recording of official quality. The performance has a distinctly different feel from the William Shorter Quartet, perhaps due to Hancock’s significant presence, and offers a fresh impression. Brian Blade’s drumming, which is uninhibited and uninhibited alongside the three legendary musicians, is also a must-see.
