This edition features a full recording of the May 9th Tokyo Garden Theater show, the first stop in Tokyo from their first Japan tour in three years, which also served as a 40th-anniversary tour and the release of their second album as a seven-member band, “GIANTS & MONSTERS.” The recording is presented in multi-stereo IEM matrix format, and also includes a DVD with high-quality audience shots of the same day’s performance. The multi-IEM matrix format combines stereo IEM sources with different mix balances used by each member on stage, along with a digital audience source, capturing the entire live sound of the large band, centered around the three distinctive vocalists and triple guitars, with astonishing separation and resolution. While some tracks contain clicks and guides typical of IEM recordings, these have been carefully edited to a level that is barely noticeable, resulting in a hybrid sound that reproduces the day’s performance in soundboard quality. Furthermore, the DVD footage, shot with a digital camera, is recorded from a 4K master, capturing the entire stage perfectly with virtually no obstructions. The audio is synchronized with the CD’s multi-IEM matrix source, and the overall quality, including the sound, is vastly superior to the fragmented footage found on YouTube and other sites. This third Japanese performance with the seven-member lineup features a significantly different setlist from the previous one in 2023. Surprisingly, it includes not only new songs but also five songs from the Andy Johnson era in addition to “Power.” The final song, “Keeper Of The Seven Keys,” is a special version featuring only the final chorus, making for a memorable ending to the lengthy show. In short, this limited-edition memorial item for the Japan tour completely recreates, in sound and video, the performance that was added as an extra show after all other shows were sold out.
