Description
This recording captures a live performance from November 3rd in Berlin, Germany, during his solo Euro tour following the release of his 1977 solo album “From Me to You” on Epic/CBS. The audio is a soundboard recording from an FM broadcast master. This period marked a significant evolution of his career, from joining Cannonball O’Call’s group to becoming a member of the Mothers of Invention in Frank Zappa’s band in the 70s, and then a co-led band with Billy Cobham, before moving into solo work. The performance is heavily funky, showcasing a further development of his career up to that point. The setlist, like the solo album, features a succession of funky and jazzy numbers, and his playing, backed by the powerful backing of Leon Chancler and others, is full of black power. Herbie Hancock even makes a guest appearance during the encore, bringing the show to a funkily charged close. As a bonus, five live takes, mainly vocal numbers, from his April US tour of the same year are included, bringing the total running time to 2 hours and 11 minutes. DISC 1 : 1.
