Description
This release pairs the January 22, 1971, Santa Monica concert (sourced from a soundboard recording) with the January 16 San Francisco show (sourced from a high-quality audience recording). Disc 1 features the Santa Monica performance; while the broadcast source from the FM air-master has long been known, this version is derived from the pre-master tape, offering superior audio quality and including DJ commentary and announcements that were previously edited out, resulting in a comprehensive 79-minute runtime. Disc 2 captures the show at San Francisco’s Fillmore West, transferred directly to CD from an original cassette recorded for archival purposes by a Japanese staff member from the record label at the time; despite a runtime of approximately 30 minutes, the latest mastering techniques have been applied to achieve astonishing audio quality for a vintage audience recording. Featuring a setlist of the best tracks from their first four albums, this live collection evokes the atmosphere of their legendary debut tour of Japan three months later—making it an essential, must-listen item for longtime fans.
