Just as we’ve released *PORT CHESTER 2013 2ND NIGHT PRO-SHOT*—a genuine pro-shot concert video that, despite originally being intended for venue lobby monitors, offers a thoroughly enjoyable viewing experience—it was obvious that a recording of the previous night’s show at the same venue must also exist. Sure enough, footage from the first night in Port Chester was indeed recorded and has now been unearthed. While the second-night release was already a dream come true for die-hard fans, the first-night footage is equally impressive, offering a flawless pro-shot and soundboard-quality experience. Any fan knows that Costello’s autumn 2013 solo tour—featuring a stripped-back, solo acoustic format—was packed with rare songs, and the *PORT CHESTER 2013* releases truly deliver on that promise. True to form, Costello’s solo performance does not disappoint; the setlist is completely different from the second night—or rather, it defies the very concept of a standard setlist. It kicks off with an incredibly rare acoustic rendition of “Welcome To The Working Week” from his debut album. In fact, only three songs overlap with the following night’s setlist. While tracks like “45” and “Veronica”—modern classics—are included, they are just the tip of the iceberg. Naturally, “New Amsterdam” segues into the Beatles’ “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away.” Even more remarkable is the inclusion of “Ghost Train”—the B-side to the “New Amsterdam” single—a choice that is nothing short of a holy grail for collectors. To top it all off, the set features “Black And White World”—another rarity in live performance—making this a show that could easily be dubbed a *Get Happy!!* tribute night, all captured with superb picture and sound quality. For any true fan, the chance to see acoustic versions of “Ghost Train” and “Black And White World” alone makes this release worth far more than the price of admission. The encore features a performance of “Which Side Are You On?”—a song not played the following day—and a unique highlight of this pro-shot footage is seeing Costello perform it solo on a four-string Gretsch tenor guitar. It even captures a perfect rendition of “Radio Soul”—the original version of the hit “Radio Radio” that generated so much buzz during that autumn tour—with Costello playing his trademark Jazzmaster. You can enjoy a performance that is completely distinct from the following day’s show, all presented with superb picture and sound quality. Costello asked the crowd, “Is anyone coming back tomorrow? We’ll be playing different songs then,” and he certainly kept his word, delivering a setlist that was remarkably different. This is a top-tier pro-shot acoustic performance that you simply have to own alongside the recording from the next day!
