Description

Port Chester, currently experiencing a whirlwind of activity, has released pro-shot footage from inside the Capitol Theatre, which also captured some fantastic Costello performances from 2013. Costello was incredibly active that year, touring with The Imposters in the first half of the year, and then releasing his album “Wind Up Ghost” in the fall, followed by a solo tour across America. As part of that tour, he performed two consecutive nights in Port Chester, and the footage that has now leaked is from the second night. Just looking at the setlist is enough to bring tears to the eyes of any fan. Because Costello was able to play freely on his own, he performed a rapid succession of hidden gems that he wouldn’t normally play with The Imposters. The opening number was “King Horse,” followed by “Sneaky Feelings” and “After the Fall”—a fantastic selection of songs that any fan would be dying to hear. Similarly, in “Crimes Of Paris,” a song that delights fans, Costello is so engrossed in his performance that he breaks a string on his acoustic guitar—a moment only possible with video. It was fortunate that this mishap occurred at the end of the performance. In “Watching The Detective,” the video perfectly captures the then-famous technique of looping his own cutting while playing a guitar solo. And to top it all off, he performs classics from “IMPERIAL BEDROOM,” such as “Beyond Belief” and “Human Hands,” in acoustic versions, which are also enjoyed in superb professional-shot footage. An encore followed, and the “Request” light at Costello’s feet was turned on, but since a sufficiently obscure repertoire had already been performed, the request corner ended in no time. As you can see from this alone, this live video is packed with rare songs and boasts top-notch professional-shot footage, making it a truly fulfilling experience. Adding to the excitement of this already fan-favorite, rare footage, even the public soundcheck, which doubled as a meet-and-greet, was professionally filmed on-site! While the filming begins at the end of the opening song “Green Shirt,” the lighting is subdued, creating a relaxed atmosphere. Yet, it features rare repertoire different from the main performance, such as an acoustic version of “Everyday I Write The Book” and a cover of Johnny Cash’s “I Still Miss Someone.” Despite spanning three DVDs, this is the ultimate Costello solo acoustic live performance, delivered with superb professional footage that makes the length feel completely free!
