Description

Another amazing find has emerged from the “KK” collection, which has been consistently releasing masterpieces. A previously unreleased audience recording from the “PERFECT STRANGERS Tour” has been discovered. This recording captures the “Malmö performance on June 18, 1985,” and it is a superb audience recording. The “PERFECT STRANGERS” era is special in Deep Purple’s long history. The “golden five” were all together, and their relationships were miraculously good. It was a peak period unlike any other, with both the album and the tour being huge successes. This golden age has been archived with as many masterpieces as possible. This new masterpiece further enriches that collection. So, what kind of show was this recording from? Let’s start by looking at an overview of their activities at the time, while also organizing our own collection. 1984 (October 29th: “PERFECT STRANGERS” released) November 27th – December 18th: Oceania (13 shows) ← *Official video 1985 January 18th – April 9th: North America #1 (47 shows) ← *DETROIT 1985 and others May 3rd: Honolulu show May 8th – 16th: Japan (8 shows) ← *OSAKA 1985 1ST NIGHT and others June 14th – July 17th: Europe (17 shows) ← ★HERE★ August 14th – 24th: North America #2 (6 shows) ← *ALPINE VALLEY 1985 The Scandinavian tour was a high-energy ride towards Knebworth. This is the overall picture of the “PERFECT STRANGERS” era. While aiming to conquer the US, they toured extensively around the world. The Malmö performance of this production took place during the “European” leg of the tour. This leg was packed with passionate and memorable performances as the group aimed for a performance at the Knebworth Festival, the highlight of the tour. Let’s take a closer look at the dates. Details of “Europe” * June 14th ‘SWEDISH STRANGERS (Stockholm)’ * June 15th ‘SWEDISH STRANGERS (Stockholm)’ * June 16th: Official ‘THE BOOTLEG SERIES (Stockholm)’ * June 18th: Malmö performance ←★This work★ * June 22nd ‘PERFECT KNEBWORTH 1985’ June 24th-27th (3 performances) * June 29th ‘REUNION IN GERMANY (Mannheim)’ * July 6th ‘NUREMBERG 1985 (video)’ July 8th: Paris performance * July 9th: Paris performance (ROCK PALAST) * July 11th ‘NICE 1985′ July 13th-17th (5 performances)…and so on. The most impressive are the first five performances. While the highlight, the “Knebworth Festival,” is best known through official releases and “PERFECT KNEBWORTH 1985,” they preceded it with a warm-up mini-tour in Scandinavia. They rapidly built up their momentum with each performance (reminiscent of their Scandinavian tour just before 1980’s MONSTERS OF ROCK). This Malmö performance is the culmination of that warm-up, a concert held just before the “Knebworth Festival.” This superb recording, released from the much-talked-about “KK” collection, is a vacuum-sealed capture of that show, using a newly unearthed master from the “KK” collection. Although previously known through audience footage, this is the first time a recording has appeared (the recorder is not “KK” but someone named “RP”). The original master has been lost, making this a precious source digitized from the youngest existing 1st generation cassette. The sound is absolutely incredible. The directness and freshness are overwhelming, and the core is intensely on. There’s no sense of distance, and the details are as fine as a soundboard recording. Not only are the vocals and guitars clear, but even the bass, which is often spoiled in audience recordings, is reproduced in vivid detail, down to each individual attack. It’s not just a matter of being able to follow the bass line; you can even transcribe Roger Glover’s interjections in response to the keyboard and guitar improvisations by ear. Moreover, despite being so powerful and direct, it’s not faltering, but rather glossy, beautiful, and incredibly stable. This superb sound captures a show built up in anticipation of the Knebworth Festival. The set is a shortened version of “Perfect Knebworth 1985,” omitting “Speed King,” and is a full show centered around numbers from “Perfect Strangers” and second-era classics. The band’s momentum after three consecutive Stockholm performances is intense, and the exhilaration of being four days away from the biggest stage of the 80s overflows from the entire recording. This is the first-ever recording of the “PERFECT STRANGERS Tour,” unearthed from the “KK” collection, which has produced a string of masterpieces. This is a superb recording that allows you to experience the exhilarating full show with astonishing directness and freshness. A new masterpiece that captures the band in their prime just before Knebworth with zero sense of distance. This is the first-ever audience recording of the “Malmö performance on June 18, 1985.” Unearthed from the “KK” collection, it is a first-generation cassette transfer with overwhelming directness and freshness. The core is intensely on with no sense of distance, and even the attack of the bass is clearly audible. This is a superb recording that allows you to experience the full show of the exhilarating band just four days before the Knebworth Festival. Isstadion, Malmö, Sweden 18th June 1985 Disc:1 (55:31) 1.
