Description
This is the first ever recording of a superb live performance from the Volkshaus Jazz Festival in Switzerland, recorded from an FM radio source during a short tour following the release of the 1983 album “Jumpin’ In,” produced under Manfred Eicher. The members are the same as on the album dedicated to Mingus, and you can fully enjoy the thrilling ensemble of the magnificent trio of alto saxophonist Steve Coleman, trombonist Julian Priester, and trumpeter Kenny Wheeler. However, the real highlight is undoubtedly Coleman’s aggressive alto saxophone. Julian Priester’s sharp trombone phrasing, which cannot be experienced in studio recordings, is the true charm of a live recording and will draw you in. Enjoy this superb performance that will surely change your perception of this quintet. Live at Volkshaus Jazz Festival, Zurich, Switzerland 10/29/1983 1. New One (15:39) 2.
