Description

In 2015, CHEAP TRICK had moved to the Big Machine label and completed their first new album in seven years. This newly discovered, superb pro-shot footage captures their energetic full show as they embarked on a new beginning! This footage was shot at their “Port Chester performance on September 26, 2015,” and is a multi-camera pro-shot. At the time, they were maintaining a furious pace of about 90 shows a year while also working on their long-awaited new album, “BANG, ZOOM, CRAZY… HELLO.” They were accelerating towards its long-awaited release. First, let’s take a look at their schedule at the time to get an overview and understand where this footage fits in. 2015 – January 24th – March 8th: North America #1 (5 shows) – March 14th – April 4th: Oceania (11 shows) – April 12th – May 2nd: North America #2 (5 shows) – May 29th – September 26th: North America #3 (51 shows) ←★HERE★ – October 22nd – December 20th: North America #4 (18 shows) 2016 – February 8th – March 5th: North America #5 (4 shows) 《April 1st: “BANG, ZOOM, CRAZY… HELLO” released》 – April 1st – May 6th: North America #6 (11 shows) – June 4th – November 5th: North America #7 (63 shows) – November 11th – 16th: Japan (4 shows) – December 8th – 31st: North America #8 (3 shows) Superb pro-shot footage from the newly discovered series is now available. This is Cheap Trick from 2015/2016. Their 2016 visit to Japan is particularly memorable, but this Port Chester performance takes place about a year earlier, on the final day of their massive “North America #3” leg. It was about six months before the release of their new album, ‘BANG, ZOOM, CRAZY… HELLO,’ and this recording captures a time when newly completed songs were already being incorporated into their live performances. This release, capturing that show, is also the latest installment in the much-talked-about “Port Chester New Discovery Series.” Initially, they surprised everyone with a string of previously unreleased soundboard recordings, but since then, multi-camera pro-shot footage has also surfaced! This week, along with the Jeff Beck and Tears for Fears editions, the Cheap Trick edition has been released simultaneously. Its quality is “official-grade + unique.” Crucially, both the picture and sound quality are top-notch, official-grade. The footage, capturing everything from close-ups of the band members to panoramic views of the stage, is thoroughly captivating, and the audio is of superb soundboard quality. However, it has a different nuance from typical official releases, feeling much more raw. It lacks the refinement of official videos that are produced after the show, and the switching seems to have been done on-site, giving it a slightly rough feel. There are no screens at this venue, but the footage has an authentic, live feel, as if it were filmed specifically for the event. A visual entertainment masterpiece packed with rare songs and surprises, this beautiful video depicts the usual greatest hits plus a little extra. Let’s take a look at the setlist here. Pale Highway (4 songs) – Hello There / Come On, Come On / Big Eyes / I Want You To Want Me Heaven’s Trap (3 songs) – California Man / On Top Of The World / Surrender Others (12 songs) – Bang, Zoom, Crazy Hello: The “In” Crowd / Long Time No See Ya Others: Lookout / Tonight It’s You / If You Want My Love / Borderline / Baby Loves To Rock / Daddy Should Have Stayed In High School / I’m Waiting For The Man / The Flame / Dream Police / Goodnight …and so on. The generous offering of classic songs from their golden age, from “Hello There” to “Surrender,” is breathtaking. However, this set is not just a greatest hits live album. First of all, “The “In” Crowd” and “Long Time No See Ya” from the unreleased album “BANG, ZOOM, CRAZY… HELLO” are performed as early as this. New songs that even fans haven’t heard yet are seamlessly integrated into the set. Furthermore, unexpected twists are added at key points, such as the sudden appearance of a cover of THE VELVET UNDERGROUND’s “I’m Waiting For The Man” and the inclusion of the rare “Daddy Should Have Stayed In High School.” While building excitement with the band’s golden age classics, the set is delicious for its wide variety that doesn’t fit into any particular format. And there’s another fun happening unique to this release. Before “Long Time No See Ya,” when the band returns to the stage for the encore, Rick Nielsen invites Junko, a resident of Yokohama, up on stage. She’s a die-hard Japanese female fan who’s been following them since the 1978 album “AT BUDOKAN,” and Rick happily introduces her by saying, “Tonight is her 200th time! That’s crazy!” This is the Cheap Trick edition of the Port Chester unearthed pro-shot series. This approximately 94-minute release offers a immersive experience of classic hits from their golden age, unreleased new tracks, and unpredictable happenings, all presented with official-quality video and superb soundboard footage. This is the CHEAP TRICK installment of the newly unearthed Port Chester pro-shot series. It features the September 26, 2015 Port Chester concert in official-quality video and superb soundboard footage.
