Description
The 1964 Stuttgart, Germany concert—previously released only in incomplete forms—has undergone a stunning upgrade; this new release presents the definitive, longest version (2 hours 39 minutes) with pitch-corrected remastering. While four tracks were released by “Unique Jazz” in 2000 and eight by “Get Back/Jazz” in 2007—followed by a release based on a rebroadcast that enthusiasts once considered the “definitive edition”—it was later revealed that the actual setlist from that day differed in duration and included songs that had been missing from previous releases. Now, thanks to the efforts of overseas enthusiasts, the complete performance is available here for the first time. This is the true definitive edition, featuring pitch-corrected broadcast audio that spans the entire set—from the opening “ATFW USA” (omitted from the rebroadcast) to the closing “The Foolish Things.” Although there are slight variations in sound quality due to the use of different broadcast source tapes, no superior recording of this performance currently exists. Live at Liederhalle, Stuttgart, Germany – April 28, 1964. Disc 1: 1. ATFW USA (4:16) 2. Sophisticated Lady (4:15) 3. Peggy’s Blue Skylight (20:50) 4. Orange Was The Color Of Her Dress (17:25). Disc 2: 1. Fables Of Faubus / Ysabel Table Dance / Duet Dolphy Mingus (43:51) 2. So Long Eric (30:27). Disc 3: 1. Meditations (30:38) 2. The Foolish Things (duet Mingus/Dolphy) (7:37).
