Bill Evans / Performance at the jazz café “Altec” in Kochi, Japan, 1978

It’s finally been revealed!! The famous recording that has been sold under numerous titles under the guise of a Kobe performance is actually from the September 10th performance at the jazz café “Altec” in Kochi! This new recording uses a new master, resulting in improved sound quality, and the annoying hiss noise and the noise in the left channel of “Morning Glory” and “Up With The Lark” are almost completely gone! This alone makes it a must-have masterpiece. From Bill Evans’ final Japan tour of 1978, this recording captures the September 10th performance at the jazz café “Altec” in Kochi using an astonishingly high-quality soundboard recording leaked by someone involved in the production. After the performance, Teruo Isono introduces the band members, calling out Mark Johnson, Philly Joe Jones, and Bill Evans. Fans have been investigating whether the order of the 1st and 2nd shows is different, but we have credited the order as it appears on the September 13th Osaka Kosei Nenkin Kaikan performance, for which audience recordings exist.
