This 3-disc special collection compiles rare live footage of Arch Enemy’s performances in Japan from 2004 to 2015! Disc 1 includes footage from their 2015 Shibuya performance and their 2008 STUDIO COAST performance, featuring plenty of their greatest hits. Enjoy a powerful stage performance that blends old and new numbers. Disc 2 includes footage from their February 8, 2004 Saitama Super Arena performance and their June 21, 2004 SHIBUYA-AX performance. This is a valuable archive featuring songs representative of the early 2000s. Finally, Disc 3 contains approximately 80 minutes of their powerful performance from their 2015 Seoul, South Korea performance. This 3-DVD collection, with a total running time of approximately 296 minutes, allows you to enjoy Arch Enemy’s evolution over time and their overwhelming live performances all at once. Details of each disc are as follows. Disc 1 features two Japanese performances by Arch Enemy, a band known for featuring accomplished Scandinavian guitarist Michael Amott (debuted in 1988) and a female vocalist with death growls. The vocals are by Alissa in 2015 and Angela in 2008. The Tokyo performances are recorded in high-definition, pro-shot quality. First up is the 2015 performance. The setlist is well-balanced, mainly featuring songs from their new album. They also play early tracks like “Burning Angel” and “Silverwing.” Alissa, with her blue hair flying, roars and is more active and energetic than Angela Gossow (Vo). While she doesn’t quite have the same stage presence as Angela, she fits well into the band and her performance is more lively than at Loud Park. In 2008, Angela Gossow’s (vo) roars, showcasing her continued growth as a performer, and Christopher Amott’s (g) virtuoso playing were impressive, but Michael Amott’s (g) emotionally charged, weeping performances were truly outstanding. The band’s powerful live performances and the depth of their music rooted in traditional metal prove that they are in a class of their own among post-Metallica bands. The performance is shorter as it was at a festival, but it’s a pro-shot from Saitama Super Arena on February 8th. Angela makes a dashing appearance from the side of the stage at the start of the song, as beautiful as ever. The chorus starts immediately, and the metal girl powers up even more. She shows no intention of letting the audience rest as she hypes them up. The chorus starts from the opening guitar melody. Angela has gained a lot of presence from her long road trips. The second half features their performance at Shibuya AX on June 21st. The vocals, like the moans of a female elephant in heat, are combined with the highly lyrical guitar melodies played by the Amott brothers and Daniel’s relentless, driving bass drumming, transforming the melody into a supreme tune overflowing with extreme emotion. This is their performance in neighboring Korea, which took place immediately after their Japan tour! The setlist is the same, so it really brings back the excitement of their Japan tour! And this is their first title since Jeff Loomis, formerly of Sanctuary and Nevermore, joined the band! The shots are taken from Jeff’s side, focusing on Jeff and Alissa, allowing you to fully appreciate Jeff’s incredible guitar playing, and also perfectly capture Alissa’s evil roars, which you wouldn’t expect to come from such a small body! The shots are good, and the sound quality is also quite good, which is a pleasant surprise! I’m completely smitten with Alissa as she shakes her blue hair and hypes up the audience. It’s a little disappointing that Michael Amott, who is on the other side of the stage, isn’t shown in detail, but you should definitely check out this aggressive live performance! The running time is 90 minutes, and it’s divided into menu chapters.
