This 85-minute recording captures their performance at Wacken Open Air, a heavy metal-focused outdoor festival held every summer for four days (including the pre-festival) in Wacken, northern Germany. This festival started as a small event by local bandmates in 1990 and has grown year after year, becoming a massive festival attracting over 80,000 people. Tickets for the following year sell out within 24 hours of going on sale, and it is recognized as one of the world’s leading festivals. It is heavy, progressive, and at times exotic. Tomi’s use of growls and clean vocals is superb. And of course, it is full of melancholic melodies that are characteristic of Amorphis. This is a flawless, perfect live performance that is quintessential Amorphis. 2023.08.03 Hauptstrasse, Wacken, Germany 01.Introduction 02.Northwards 03.Bad Blood 04.The Four Wise Ones 05.The Moon 06.Thousand Lakes 07.Into Hiding 08.Black Winter Day 09.Silver Bride 10.Sky Is Mine 11.Wrong Direction 12.Amongst Stars 13.Seven Roads Come Together 14.On The Dark Waters 15.My Kantele 16.House Of Sleep 17.The Bee Approx 85min Disc 3 This is the latest pro-shot live video of Amorphis, whose long-awaited 12th album “Under The Red Cloud” will be released on September 4th! Tomi Joutsen’s super long dreadlocks are gone! He now has straight, shoulder-length semi-long hair! It seems that the feeling of liberation from creating a fulfilling new album that has been rumored to be a masterpiece even before its release means that he’s also freeing his hair follicles from the weight of his hair. Instead, his beard is braided. You look cool even with short hair, Tomi! And, and, the setlist is also insane! It’s a live performance of their masterpiece 2nd album “Tales From The Thousand Lakes,” which caused a huge sensation in an era before the album was released in ’94, when the term “melodic death metal” didn’t even exist! Insane! It’s too insane! It brings back memories of that time when they, along with Carcass and In Flames, established melodic death metal as a genre, and it makes me tear up! After the complete performance, the setlist consists only of early songs from their 1st and 3rd albums, and EPs!
