Description
The quintessential Bon Scott-era FM soundboard recordings have evolved to the ultimate level! Two titles are being released simultaneously on top-of-the-line sound CDs! This is the first of those simultaneous releases. It’s a stereo soundboard recording of the Cleveland concert on August 22, 1977. 1977 is symbolic of the year, with the official release of “LIVE FROM THE ATLANTIC STUDIOS” in the box set “BONFRE,” and the masterpiece “OLD WALDORF 1977 SOUNDBOARD MASTER REEL” still fresh in our memories. So, what is the position of this release in that context? Let’s start by looking back at the overview of their activities at the time.・January 7th – February 15th: Australia (16 shows) ・February 18th – March 20th: UK (25 shows) 《March 21st ‘LET THERE BE ROCK’ released》 ・April 5th – 29th: Europe #1 (16 shows) 《May: Mark Evans leaves → Cliff Williams joins》 ・June 1st: Sydney show ・July 1st + 2nd: Sydney (2 shows) ・July 27th – September 7th: North America #1 (28 shows) ←★HERE★ ・September 12th – November 12th: Europe #2 (39 shows) ←※LONDON 1977 ・November 16th – December 21st: North America #2 (21 shows) ←※Official ATLANTIC STUDIOS This is AC/DC in 1977. Mark Evans was replaced by Cliff Williams midway through, completing the golden rhythm section. This Cleveland performance is the 19th show of “North America #1,” taking place about three months after that change of heart. It was a stage performance about two weeks (eight shows) before the highly acclaimed “OLD WALDORF 1977 SOUNDBOARD MASTER REEL.” A shocking pre-FM reel master newly discovered As mentioned above, this show is known for being broadcast on FM and has been a long-standing classic. This release is a new master that surpasses the previous best. Its true identity is a pre-FM reel tape that was released very recently. Pre-FM masters have existed for some time, but this is a rebroadcast version by Cleveland’s local station “WMMS.” It contains sound that is even fresher than conventional pre-broadcast masters. The sound is the best ever. The vivid recording from the prestigious broadcasting station and the undegraded master freshness are vibrant. Moreover, it’s not just that the sound is good. The mix has well-defined positioning of each instrument, and the wide panning to the left and right creates a sense of depth. And the rawness is unbelievable. The finished product, with its lingering feedback, is so realistic it sounds like a live broadcast, simultaneously possessing both a raw, unprocessed feel and a polished, cohesive presence as a complete work. While the recent “OLD WALDORF 1977 SOUNDBOARD MASTER REEL” was striking, this work surpasses it even further. It’s quite different from the beautifully polished sound of “Guitar Murder Case,” but the quality is outstanding. In terms of sound quality and rawness, it’s on par with the official “LIVE FROM THE ATLANTIC STUDIOS.” In fact, when played on shuffle, it’s almost indistinguishable, making it truly top-class even among “official-level unearthed” releases. Moreover, this release is the ultimate version, further enhanced by our store’s unique and meticulous mastering process. While it’s been polished using various techniques, the pitch correction was particularly effective. The original sound released online was about 50% lower than the original semitone, but this version has been corrected to the perfect pitch. This is a one-of-a-kind, pinnacle album that elevates the best master recordings in history to an unparalleled level of perfection. The set also includes valuable tracks that complement the official releases, making it a truly enjoyable collection. The supreme sound depicts a stage where the newly completed “monster groove” runs wild. The setlist differs from official releases such as “Guitar Murder Case” and “LIVE FROM THE ATLANTIC STUDIOS,” so let’s compare and organize them here. International High Voltage (4 tracks) – Live Wire (★) / She’s Got Balls (★★) / The Jack / High Voltage Others (3 tracks) – Problem Child / Baby Please Don’t Go (★★) / Rocker *Note: Tracks marked with “★” were not on the traditional release “Guitar Murder Case.” Tracks marked with “★★” were not even on the official release “LIVE FROM THE ATLANTIC STUDIOS.” …and so on. While “Live Wire” and “She’s Got Balls” are welcome additions, the one you absolutely cannot miss is “Baby Please Don’t Go.” Not only is it rare to hear it on “Guitar Murder Case” or “LIVE FROM THE ATLANTIC STUDIOS,” but more than that, this take is simply incredible. It charges forward with a thrash metal-like ferocity, and in addition to the Young brothers, Cliff Williams’ groovy/punchy bass is unusually cool. The sharp and powerful groove is unleashed for over nine minutes. Regardless of whether it’s official or unofficial, I can’t recall ever hearing such a beautifully wild “monster groove.” This is truly the biggest and strongest take on the album. It’s a familiar, standard FM soundboard recording, yet the quality is unlike anything I’ve ever heard. And the raw, vivid sound stands out. This feeling of awe is the most shocking I’ve experienced in 30 years, since the official release of “LIVE FROM THE ATLANTIC STUDIOS” on “BONFIRE.” This is truly an absolute masterpiece that deserves to be called “another THE ATLANTIC STUDIOS.” A stereo soundboard recording of the Cleveland concert on August 22, 1977. While this is a well-known show familiar from FM broadcasts, this is a top-of-the-line updated version directly digitized from a pre-FM reel tape of a rebroadcast. The pitch, which was about 50% lower than it should have been, has been perfectly corrected, making it completely on par with the official “LIVE FROM THE ATLANTIC STUDIOS.” The powerful “Baby Please Don’t Go,” which was only performed during the Bon Scott era, is also included, making this an absolute masterpiece that truly represents “another THE ATLANTIC STUDIOS.” Agora Ballroom, Cleveland, OH, USA 22nd August 1977 STGEREO SBD (48:47) 1.
