Description

Last year, Yusef Days, the leading British jazz musician who released his solo debut album “Black Classical Music” to worldwide acclaim, and whose recent performance in Japan sold out immediately, has demonstrated his talent. This groovy item is now in stock, coupling the 2024 Australian performance by his quartet and the 2023 North Sea Jazz Festival performance by his quintet with percussion, both in superb high quality! The performance of the same ironclad regular quartet as the Japanese performance, led by Yusef Days, his ally and fellow bassist Rocco Palladino, keyboardist Elijah Fox, and saxophonist Malik Venna, was recorded in full at Botanic Park in Adelaide, Australia on March 10, 2024, with the label’s own careful mastering of the highest quality sound, and the live performance at the 2023 North Sea Jazz Festival, with the four of them joined by percussionist Alex Boat, was recorded on a 16-minute, high-quality stereo soundboard. This is a must-have item that you cannot miss, as it touches the ever-evolving forefront of UK jazz! ! Yusef has Jamaican roots, so he fuses elements of reggae, as well as the worldwide musicality of his interests, such as Nigerian Afrobeat, bossa nova, and Latin music, with jazz, funk, R&B, hip hop, and British club music to create his own unique music, and the culmination of this is “Black Classical Music.” As he is a drummer, the center of his music is beat and rhythm, and the groove that is created by intricately intertwining them. Yusef’s work is like a kaleidoscope, with the unique drums that intersect with the steady and unusual time signatures based on Yusef’s heartbeat, and the groove created by Rocco, Yusef’s right-hand man on bass, and the keyboard and saxophone intertwine to develop the songs in a free-flowing manner. It is a wonderful music filled with very pleasant sounds, casually incorporating the amazing drum solos and superb techniques played at high speeds like his master Cobham. Compared to the elaborate studio performances, the live performance is hotter, more flexible in tempo, and faster, like the scenery changing at high speed on a highway. For reference, Yusef’s playlist on Spotify includes Max Roach, Stan Getz, Billie Holiday, Jaco Pastorius, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Sade, and others, which is quite interesting.
