Description
Yngwie Malmsteen in 1988 finally took the stage at the Nippon Budokan with Joe Lynn Turner as his partner. A precious video of the historic scene will be released. This work was shot at the “August 25, 1988: Nippon Budokan” performance. This is the audience shot… probably. I’m sorry for suddenly becoming weak-willed, but there is actually a reason for that. First of all, this work is a multi-camera edit with two cameras. And secondly, the angles of the two cameras are strange. One camera is captured from a slightly distant distance from the stands, which is the best. It is a completely spectacular view where the audience is not visible at all, and although the camera work that clearly uses a tripod is incomplete in its jerky movements, the sense of stability without camera shake is tremendous. And the zoom is amazing. At first, Joe and Yngwie, who are like fingertips, get bigger and bigger, and at the maximum zoom, they get so close that half of their bodies fill the screen. Despite the close-up, the image quality is so good that you can see their expressions, and it’s hard to believe that this is a home video from 1988. The image is so beautiful that it makes you think that it was actually some kind of professional filming. What’s even more surprising is the sub-camera. This position is overhead. The highest seats at the Nippon Budokan are quite at an angle, but in that case they are almost right next to the stage. This angle is not like that, it’s completely overhead. You can even see Joe and Jens Johansson’s whorls. It’s not an angle that the audience can take, and even professional shots don’t set up cameras at such angles. It’s a mysterious shot that brings more mysteries. Such beautiful images depict the full show of the famous duo “Joe & Yngwie” standing side by side. Speaking of the “ODYSSEY Tour”, the official work “TRIAL BY FIRE” is a symbol of it all, so let’s first review the positional relationship with this work in the schedule at that time. 1988 {April 8th, “ODYSSEY” released} ・April 10th-16th: North America #1 (5 shows) ・May 19th-July 30th: North America #2 (49 shows) ・August 16th-25th: Japan (6 shows) ←★here★ ・November 14th-December 19th: Europe (28 shows) 1989 ・January 18th-February 10th: Russia (21 shows) ←※TRIAL BY FIRE {October 12th, “TRIAL BY FIRE” released} This is the outline of the activities during the “ODYSSEY” era. The Russian tour that produced “TRIAL BY FIRE” was in 1989, when the new year had come, while the Japan tour was in midsummer, August. The Nippon Budokan performance of this work was the final day, which was the highlight of the work (Incidentally, Joe first stood at the Budokan on August 26, 1981. It was seven years ago, one day behind this work). And this work’s set is similar to “TRIAL BY FIRE”. Let’s organize it while comparing it here. Odyssey Rising Force / Deja Vu / Crystal Ball / Heaven Tonight / Now Is The Time (★) / Dreaming (Tell Me) / Faster Than The Speed Of Light (★) Others Trilogy: Liar / Queen In Love / You Don’t Remember, I’ll Never Forget / Trilogy Suite Opus 5 Other originals: Far Beyond The Sun / Black Star / I’ll See The Light, Tonight (★) Covers and others: Adagio (★) / Blues Jam (★◆) / Smoke On The Water (★◆) *Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard on “TRIAL BY FIRE”. The “◆” mark indicates a collaboration with Jeff Baxter. Yngwie’s memorable first Budokan performance is well known from the masterpiece “DEFINITIVE BUDOKAN 1988”. This work is a valuable video that actually lets you witness the “other side”. A two-camera mix video work with a unique style and show content that is a must-see A video work that allows you to witness the Nippon Budokan performance during the Joe Lynn Turner era has been released. You can experience a valuable full show with a two-camera mix from an unusual angle that you would not think was shot by the audience. Live at Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 25th August 1988 AMAZING SHOT 1.
