Description

After the release of the album “ODYSSEY”, the US tour that began in April 1988 became a joint tour with LITA FORD and BLACK ‘N’ BLUE from mid-May, and became a large-scale circuit throughout the United States until the end of July. This work records the performance at the Royal Oak Music Theater in Detroit, Michigan on June 22, about two months after the start of the tour, with an audience shot. Although the original is an analog video master, the generation of the material is high (it seems to be direct from the 1st generation master), and both the image quality and sound quality are more than enough for nearly 30 years ago. You can enjoy the performance of Yngwie and Joe for about 90 minutes. The live starts with “Rising Force”, which has been a standard song for shows since 1988. The shot is from the second floor seats, but the photographer uses appropriate close-ups to give a clear understanding of the members and the stage (there are some parts where the shaking is noticeable at the beginning of the live, but it stabilizes from the middle of “Rising Force” onwards). Considering that the audience in the front did not obstruct the view and the live performance was filmed from start to finish, this video seems to have been recorded by someone involved or from some special section. For an audience video from 25 years ago, the quality is clearly outstanding and extremely high. Following “Rising Force”, “Liar”, “Queen In Love”, and “Deja Vu” is a familiar composition from the 1988 tour. However, the performance (as with all live performances) is permeated with unique highlights and powerful performances. Yngwie’s bursting guitar playing and emotional solos, as well as Joe’s professional stability and soulful and attractive singing voice are amazing! The chemistry that only existed at the time of “ODYSSEY” shines even more in the video! As they had already performed more than 30 times at the time of this Detroit performance, the flow of the show and the quality of the performance were already ripe. The dramatic “You Don’t Remember, I’ll Never Forget” (don’t miss the passage of “Street Of Dreams” inserted in the middle) and “Far Beyond The Sun” featuring Vivaldi’s melody in the intro are big highlights. “Heaven Tonight”, “Now Is The Time”, and “I’ll See The Light, Tonight” that appear in the middle of the live are also points of the first half of the ’88 tour that are different from the UK and European tours. The development from this hard “I’ll See The Light, Tonight” to the delicate “Dreaming (Tell Me)” gives the live a sharpness and hook. The climax of the show is the powerful excitement of “Faster Than The Speed Of Light”, followed by the masterpiece “Black Star” and the memorable cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze”. About three years have passed since his brilliant solo debut. The year ’88 was a time when Yngwie’s popularity was at an all-time high not only in Japan but also in America and Europe. The collaboration with Joe can be confirmed as a sound source and video in many collector’s items, including official works, but this work is one of the most noteworthy videos. This work, which allows you to enjoy the live performance at that time with the best audience shots, is a must-see for collectors. Of course, it comes with an original menu only for this work.
