Description

YES successfully completed their performance in Japan to celebrate their 50th anniversary. The original recording of the highlight performance that attracted the most attention is now available. The highlight performance was the “February 24, 2019: Tokyo Dome City Hall” performance, which was also part of the world tour Senshu Raku. This is a masterpiece audience recording. It was held for three consecutive days at Tokyo Dome City Hall, but why was this day the highlight? It’s on the set list. This time, it was the first bold daily set in YES’s history of visiting Japan. There were some differences from the initial announcement, so let’s first take a look at the concept for each day. ・February 19th (Nagoya): Complete reproduction of “Crisis” ・February 20th (Amagasaki): Complete reproduction of “Crisis” ・February 22nd (Tokyo): Complete reproduction of “Crisis” ・February 23rd (Tokyo) : Best song selection set ・February 24th (Tokyo): Complete reproduction of “Third Album” ←★This work★ Above, 5 performances in total. The first three performances were the same set centered around a complete reproduction of “Kirishi,” but the remaining two performances changed daily. Especially on the last day, Japan’s first complete reproduction of the “Third Album” was realized. Moreover, this is extremely rare worldwide. A reenactment of “Crisis” was also performed on the ship just before the Japan performance, but “Third Album” was the first time since 2014. For the first time in five years, this special event was held once on this day. Of course, it is the first time since becoming Billy Sherwood & Jay Shellen, and even the originator: Tony Kaye is participating. It is an extremely rare show that you can appreciate just by listening to it, but the quality of this work is far from that.It is a masterpiece of the highest level. This is the original master for this work that was given to me by the recording artist himself, but anyway, the atmosphere is clear and transparent, the core is on and at the touch level, and the sound is neat all the way. Furthermore, the sense of stability is also excellent. If you listen closely with headphones, you can feel the acoustics of the venue, but even that doesn’t create a sense of distance or muddyness. We are introducing this as a gift so that as many people as possible can experience it because it is the most popular show of the year, but it is a live album with such exquisite sound that you may be wondering if it is a little premature. The show drawn with such a sound is one of the special ones in the entire 50th anniversary tour. The show was a “two-part + encore” like the other performances, the first part was a historical regular set, and the second part was a reproduction of the “third album”. Although the 3rd album is full of standard live songs, the rarity of “A Venture” is still dizzying. Now, in order to summarize the performance in Japan this time, let’s organize the songs performed for all performances. ●Common to all 5 performances “Sweet Dreams” “Clap” “Close to the Edge” “Parallels” “Madrigal” “Nine Voices (Longwalker)” “We Can Fly” ★Tony Kaye participation “No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed” “Yours Is No Disgrace” ★Tony Kaye & Alan White participation “Starship Trooper” “Roundabout” ●Nagoya, Osaka, Tokyo first day only “And You and I” “Siberian Khatru (Alan White participation)” ●Tokyo 2nd day Only on the eyes “Soon” “Does It Really Happen?” ●Only on the 2nd and 3rd day in Tokyo “Heart of the Sunrise” “Perpetual Change” ●Only on the 3rd day in Tokyo “I’ve Seen All Good People” “A Venture”… …and it looks like this. The rarity of “A Venture” stands out, but the “third album” as a whole is even more important. What’s more, the second part hits you hard right from the start. Steve Howe calls “YES’s original keyboard!” and Tony Kaye appears, and “Yours Is No Disgrace” starts. I thought that Tony would be reproduced as it was, but that was not the case and it was only the same two songs as other performances. And the performance is also great. Since it was only performed once, I can’t expect it to reach an ironclad level, but most of the songs are live staples so there is no feeling of unfamiliarity. Shellen’s drumming, which was also active in the reenactment of “Kirishi”, is wonderful here as well, and you can listen to plenty of passionate performance suitable for the highlight performance of the world tour. “Third Album of 2019” was not limited to this performance in Japan, but was only available once in the world. This is a masterpiece that vacuum-packs that once-in-a-lifetime night with the best sound.
