Description
The best footage of the era that is described as the “strongest of the 90s” in the history of YES, which has countless lineups, is here. The “strongest of the 90s” is exactly the “THE LADDER” era. Although Rick Wakeman has left the “golden five”, it is a “six-man YES” with new stars Igor Koroshev and Billy Sherwood. This work was filmed during such a scene of “THE LADDER TOUR”. This is an audience shot of the “December 7, 1999 New York City performance”. First of all, let’s imagine the position of this work from the tour overview. ・September 6-24, 1999: Latin America (9 performances) ・October 15-December 13, 1999: North America (43 performances) ←★Here★ ・February 6-March 25, 2000: Europe (31 performances) In this way, the tour is divided into three parts, and the New York performance of this work is the final stage of “North America”. We have delivered “TORONTO 1999” from this tour, but the quality of this work (as you can imagine from the fact that it was released normally) is amazing. It is a shot looking down from the balcony seats in front of the stage, and the view is of an extraordinary dimension. Not only are there no shadows such as the arms and heads of the front row, but even the audience in the arena seats are not reflected, and you can only look directly at the stage. It is a superb viewpoint where “6 people YES” occupies the entire screen. If the field of view is above, the sense of stability is also abnormal. It seems that a tripod is probably being used, and it zooms in until the expressions of each of the six people can be seen, but it does not shake at all and the focus is instantly set. It is so tight that you can enjoy the image without any disturbance from beginning to end, so much so that you might think “Is it a venue setup camera? Is it a staff shot?”. The image quality and master freshness that do not blur even with that bold zoom are also amazing. From the start of the show, we approach Chris Squire, who looks like a suspicious doctor, but even the wrinkles in his white coat are beautiful. If you move on to John Anderson, you can see his teeth, and if you project Steve Howe, you can see not only his fingertips but also his nails. Even the sound is great. Of course, it becomes an audience sound, but like the view, there is no obstruction. There is no wraparound, and the details are crisp and vivid. The show drawn with such quality is also really wonderful. The official work “HOUSE OF YES” was also released from this tour, but it is a complete version that includes the cut “Hearts”. Even more wonderful is the ensemble that is said to be “the strongest in the 90s”. Anyway, it is tight and precise. Although the new members Igor and Billy are ferociously skilled, they do not try to draw their own world like Trevor Rabin. While dedicating tremendous respect to “classic YES”, the ensemble is even thicker and above all, the touch is sharp. Supported by such two people, the four big names are in top form. The performance was crisper than ever, and the classic YES songs and the new songs from THE LADDER were performed with a refreshing vividness. The encore “Owner Of A Lonely Heart” is particularly must-see. Of course, Billy plays the role of Rabin, and it’s his show, but Howe’s solo in the second half is also amazing. He burns ferociously, writhes and plays hard. He shows us a tremendous solo that makes us sweat even as we watch. Of course, he is also sharp on other songs, but to play this song with such great momentum… We have delivered many live albums and videos from this tour, but I can’t think of a better performance than this. Furthermore, the audience who witnessed the performance was also amazing. The fierce excitement was a big cheer, whether it was the golden 70s or the big hit 80s. As soon as the opening song “Yours Is No Disgrace” ended, a huge cheer broke out, and John had a hard time moving on to the next song. It was so strange that I wondered, “What is so popular!?” If you receive such a warm welcome, it’s only natural that you’ll be in a good mood and get into the groove from start to finish… Live performances are made with the audience. It’s a show that makes you realize such obvious things. The video, sound, filming technology, audience, and performance… everything is the best. A masterpiece of audience shots that allows you to experience “the strongest YES of the 90s” in the best seats. You can’t talk about “YES’s 90s” without seeing this! Beacon Theate, New York City, NY.
