Description

The August 12, 1977 Boston performance of Yes was the final presentation of the series by century taper Dan Lumpinski. This is the 12th performance of Rick Wakeman’s “Going For The One” North American tour after his return, and Lampinski has recorded the best performance of this period, which has become more driving with each live performance. Completely recorded with the highest level of ultra-high quality audience recording. The clarity, punch, and sense of scale of the sound are all perfect, and you can enjoy the miraculous sound as if the atmosphere of the venue in 1977 had been revived in the present day. (Maybe Lampinski released this treasured sound source at the end of the series to decorate the finale.) In addition to the opening Parallels, the second song I’ve Seen, which seems to have a fixed PA sound. The explosion part in the second half of All Good People is truly spectacular, and you can enjoy the intense Yes show of this period with a tremendous sound that makes you feel, “I have never heard an audience recording like this!” I don’t think anyone has ever heard such amazing And You And I before. The sound quality does not deteriorate at all even with the big songs such as Awaken, Starship Trooper, Roundabout, Yours Is No Disgrace in the latter half of the show, it is a truly miraculous take! Starship Trooper’s 10-minute synth interplay part is amazing! And to begin with, all the songs are at a level that I’ve never heard before. The high sound quality that made you feel the quality of the ELP recorded at the same time by Rampinski was also impressive, but this recording can be said to be more ferocious and full of lively charm. There aren’t many recordings that are so great that you start to worry about the speakers when you listen to them. This is really a big deal because the sound is not distorted at all. The REC indicator at Lampinski on that day was probably showing the best condition just before hitting red, but there was no way I could aim for and record a sound like this, so I had to rely on the equipment, position, PA of the day, and excellent performance. There is no doubt that all of these things combined in the best possible way to realize and complete this miraculous take. I think the only 1977 sound source comparable to this is Mike Millard’s Long Beach sound source (9/26). The performance of Yes that can be heard with this sound is truly spectacular, and everyone who listens to Yes will be amazed once again at the awesomeness of Yes as a live act! ! Among the releases released on the same day is “Rays Of Light” (an upgraded version of Virtuoso, “Prelude to Awaken” (HL)) recorded at the same venue, which also has the highest level of sound for an audience recording at that time. However, you can feel the difference in sound quality from the realistic and clear sound image of the Rampinski record, which even the high-quality previously released records cannot compete with. Beatleg (vol. 108) at the time also commented on the previous release, saying, “The pitch is accurate. The distance from the sound source seems a little far, but the output from the PA is well balanced, so it’s in a very well-balanced condition.” In fact, the sound recorded on this disc is incomparably closer than the previous release, and there is an overwhelming difference in sound clarity and punch, and in 1977 As a venue recording, the entire story is recorded with the “ultimate” super sound. In the Beatleg review, he gave a positive review of the previous release, saying, “It makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the arena,” but this Lampinski board, on the other hand, has a lot of people sitting in the front row (or It seems to have been recorded directly in front of the speakers, and the musical sound is strangely loud. In contrast to the previous release, which has a sense of realism, the cheers can be heard in the distance, so it must have been recorded a long time ago. As a supplementary part, the opening Firebird Suite around 1:17 and the cut point 5:56 to 6:30 due to the tape change in the middle of Awaken are connected naturally from the already released “Rays Of Light” . A miraculous take left behind by Lumpinski. Not only is this the best Yes title this year, but it’s one of the best of all progressive rock live CDs. Live at Boston Garden, Boston, MA.
