Description
This work contains the three days in Tokyo that marked the beginning of the YES ft. ARW Japan tour. “April 17, 18, and 19, 2017: Orchard Hall performance”. However, it is not a full show of each performance, but a compilation that spells out the highlights of each performance with audience shots of each song. However, even though it is a compilation, all the shots except “And You And I on the first day (April 17)” were taken by the same photographer. Of course, the positions are slightly different on the three days, but the difference is extremely subtle. Moreover, it is a video work that allows you to witness the three days in Tokyo with plenty of unity of the same photographer and the same equipment. Many people are probably curious about the day they saw it themselves, so let’s introduce each day. [Tokyo first day: April 17, 2017] First up are the two songs from the first day’s performance, “And You And I” and “Heart Of The Sunrise”. As mentioned above, only “And You And I” was shot by a different photographer, but both are of superb quality. “And You And I” was shot from the back seats in front of the stage, and it’s an excellent angle that allows you to look directly at the stage with zero obstructions over the heads of the audience on the first floor. It’s almost the same eye height as the stage, and it’s a view that makes it seem like you’re going to make eye contact with the members. No zoom is used, and it remains a distant view, but that’s why you can fully enjoy the illusion of the entire stage. The beauty of “And You And I”, which is freshly revived by purple light, is exquisite. The next song, “Heart Of The Sunrise”, is on the left side of the stage (near Trevor Rabin), and is a shot looking up at the stage. The closeness that allows you to see the expressions of the members is wonderful, and the ultra-detailed image quality of the professional shot is also amazing. Even more intense is the thick sound of the deep bass. Ian Hornal, who came to Japan in a hurry to replace Lee Pomeroy, roars to the five organs with his extremely thick bass. The rumbling sound and performance are as strong as the three main characters. [Tokyo Day 2: April 18, 2017] The second day is the most popular three songs in this work. The show should be different, but the position is very similar to the first day. Of course, the shooting equipment and techniques are similar, and if you watch them continuously, you won’t think it’s a different concert. The fact that they are very similar means that they are of the same excellent quality. The three songs “I’ve Seen All Good People”, “The Meeting”, and “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”, which are depicted with that beautiful video, allow you to enjoy the beginning, middle and encore of the show in a digest. Every song is great, but the must-see is “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”. You can experience the scene where Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin get off the stage and walk around the audience seats with the best quality. After all, the position of this work is very close to the stage, so Trevor coming down is close. It’s so close that you’ll want to reach out to the monitor right in front of you. After that, the two of them parade to the back of the venue, and the sea of smartphones they raise at that time is also quite amazing. This is a great shot that allows you to experience the production that was a hot topic at each venue in the highest quality of the naked eye. [Tokyo Day 3: April 19, 2017] The last day, the third day, is the opening scene where the sense of expectation explodes, the opposite of the previous one. It is “Cinema” and “Perpetual Change”. This is also a shot looking up from the left side of the stage, and it makes you wonder “Is this really a different concert?” (If you look closely, it seems to be even earlier than the previous two days…). And the opening scene depicted there makes your heart warm with the long-awaited appearance of Jon Anderson. Thinking back, the last time John came to Japan as a member of YES was in 2003. At the time, I thought I would see him again soon, but 14 years have passed since then… The moment when those feelings explode is depicted with the highest quality. The reunion that finally came true and the nostalgic yet new YES music. This video collection puts you in the middle of the Orchard Hall, where various emotions are swirling. To be honest, not even each song is recorded in its entirety, but the exquisite beauty of the video makes up for everything in this masterpiece.
