Description
Just before arriving in Japan, ARW changed their name to “YES Featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, Rick Wakeman (hereinafter “YES ft. ARW”). Their performance, which is as if they are saying “We are YES too,” has been met with rave reviews from all quarters. Here is the first installment of the “Sound Report” that reports on the scene. This work contains the performances on “July 17th, 18th, and 19th, 2017.” It is a six-disc set that contains the complete recording of the three consecutive days of performances at “Orchard Hall.” First, let’s check the recording status of each disc in the tour schedule.・April 17: Orchard Hall [Discs 1-2] ・April 18: Orchard Hall [Discs 3-4] ・April 19: Orchard Hall [Discs 5-6] ・April 21: Amashin Archaic Hall ・April 22: Hiroshima Club Quattro ・April 24: Nagoya Village Hall In this way, this tour is “Orchard Hall x 3 days + 3 days of local performances”. This work is a single that covers all the Tokyo performances. In this way, the theme of this work is “Tokyo Coverage Breaking News”, but in fact there is also a “back theme”. That is… “YES Showdown”. After all, we are now in the “two YES” era for the first time in history. Even the former ABWH did not call themselves “YES”, but with this name change, “two YES” have appeared, and it has become the first time in history that they will tour at the same time. YES fans all over the world (even though they know it’s a bit childish) can’t help but talk about “which one is better”. However, there has been almost no best material for this topic until now. Even though “the original YES” and “YES ft. ARW” are doing world tours at the same time, “concerts in the same city” are limited, and especially “completely the same venue” is very rare. Furthermore, it is hopeless to leave good recordings of both YES at the same venue, and even if the recordings themselves come out, the quality is different. It was difficult to compare them. The chance of a thousand and one to change such a situation was the “Orchard Hall” of this visit to Japan. “The original YES in November 2016” and “YES ft. ARW in April 2017” about half a year later. Both of them have performed concerts at the same venue many times. Of course, Japan is known worldwide as a “famous place for powerful recordings”, so enthusiasts all over the world are looking forward to this schedule. This work responds to such a globally popular “fixed point observation”. This work is a rare opportunity all over the world, so we paid attention to every point. Our shop has released many “Orchards of the original YES”, but the three apex recordings of each day are “TOKYO 2016 1ST NIGHT”, “2ND NIGHT” and “3RD NIGHT”. Of course, these are all by different recordists, but this work is a “YES ft. ARW edition” that fully corresponds to them. In other words, the works of the same recorder are prepared for each of the “first day of Tokyo”, “second day of Tokyo”, and “third day of Tokyo”. Even if you have any of the “three works of the original YES”, you can enjoy the comparison with “this one work”. As you can see from the story so far, the quality of this work is also superb. After all, the masters who made the apex recordings of the original YES are recording with the same equipment and at the same venue, so there is no way it can be bad. The clarity, directness, and beauty of the sound…all of them are impeccable. Contrasting with the original YES in such a sound… this is already a rare luxury in rock history. The show composition and activity concept are interesting in total, but if it’s the same song, it’s even more striking. There are five songs in particular, “Perpetual Change” with its sharp speed, “I’ve Seen All Good People” with Trevor Rabin’s light acoustic guitar intro, “And You and I” with Rick Wakeman’s sound that is simply beautiful, and “Roundabout” which was arranged as an encore for both YES. The most interesting of them all is “Heart Of The Sunrise”. The point here is drummer Lou Molino III. Both YES this time both appointed young people to the rhythm section to give us a fresh ensemble, but Lou seems to have been possessed by a young Bill Bruford. He shows off his detailed and delicate drumming, which shines the best in “Heart Of The Sunrise”. This work is, above all, a “flash report of the best recording” and “complete coverage of Tokyo 3DAYS”. This is a luxurious 6-disc set that will fill you up with just this work. However, on top of that, there is also the pleasure of comparing the “two YES” at the “same venue, same recorder, and same equipment” for three performances. To do that, “TOKYO 2016 1ST NIGHT”, “2ND NIGHT”, and “3RD NIGHT” are also necessary, but even if the world is wide and the recordings are the number of stars, it is a luxury that is only allowed for this work. It is a masterpiece that allows you to enjoy the best flash report of the Japanese performance and the “fixed point observation of three performances” that is unique in the world.
