This is a superb live set featuring the premiere of “Heat Of The Moment” dedicated to John Wetton. Wetton passed away on January 31, 2017. Upon hearing the news, YES performed “Heat Of The Moment” in tribute to him. The premiere was on February 8, 2017. It was a concert on board the luxury cruise ship “BRILLIANCE OF THE SEAS”. Currently, cruises with concerts are popular overseas, and various artists and bands participate in them. This show is the YES version. It was held during a cruise called “CRUISE TO THE EDGE” from Tampa, Florida, USA to the isolated island of Cozumel in the Caribbean, and has become an annual event for pre-great fans (and artists too!). There were two performances on “CRUISE TO THE EDGE” on “February 7th and 8th”, but this work is the second day. This work is a three-disc set with the full audience recording of “February 8th” on discs 1 and 2, and a digest audience video on disc 3. First of all, the main full audience album. This is a tremendous live album that takes the best to the next level. Its quality goes beyond “like a sound board” to a surprising level of “isn’t this a sound board!?” The extremely thick and extremely clear musical tones are terribly direct and have no sense of distance at all. Although the liveliness of the applause is transparent to the audience, it is also balanced like an official board that has been precisely mixed. Of course, there is no room for complaint about the musical tones themselves, and it is an extremely beautiful and well-balanced super-beautiful recording in every respect. The show depicted with that quality is a “complete reproduction of the drama + partial reproduction of ocean topography + great masterpiece” composition that is familiar from overseas performances. However, perhaps because of the special environment of the cruise or because it is the first attempt at “Heat Of The Moment”, the famous songs are not sandwiched between the two reproduction parts, and the great representative songs are solidified and played as encores. And that mood is also reflected in the performance, and the performance is more careful than usual. Not only the sound, but also the beauty of the performance itself is a standout live album. The atmosphere is broken by “Heat Of The Moment”, which was released at the very end. The audience is surprised and delighted by the masterpiece that begins with Steve Howe’s declaration of “Dedicated to a friend, John Wetton!”. As they are participating in an expensive cruise performance, the audience is full of people who love progressive rock to the bone. Perhaps everyone is aware of the news of his death a week ago, but I never thought that YES would play AISA’s representative song… Such surprise and joy are recorded in reality. The ensemble was a bit suspicious in the recently released “POMPANO BEACH 2017”, but this work has a very tight and careful finish, perhaps because the tension of the premiere turned in a good direction. In addition to the super-excellent live album, this work also includes footage of the shocking moment. This is a DVD on disc 3. This disc contains three types of footage, all of which are partial but of the highest quality. The first main shot includes the introduction of the members, followed by “Roundabout”, “Starship Trooper” and “Heat Of The Moment”. All songs except the album reproduction part. It was shot from the first floor seats on the left side of the stage (Howe side), and the excellent close-up shots of Howe in the center are delicious. Of course, the image quality is super beautiful with the latest digital equipment, and the stability is also excellent. The zoom approaches Howe’s fingering, and the image is as beautiful as an angle of a professional shot. The other two shots contain only the memorable “Heat Of The Moment”. It is a shot looking down from the second floor seats on the right side of the stage (near Billy Sherwood) and a shot of the whole view from the front and rear of the stage. Although it is more stable than the main shot, both are the latest digital super image quality. The second floor shot makes extensive use of zooms that allow you to see each person’s facial expressions. You can clearly see the coolness of Howe pointing into the air while calling out Wetton’s name, and even Jay Schellen playing the cowbell next to Alan White (By the way, Alan, who has no connection to ASIA, played this song only on this day. After that, Schellen took over). The third front shot at the end allows you to clearly see the screen behind the stage because you are facing it directly. There are the words “John Wetton 12th June 1949 31st January 2017” on it… This is a great decision board that contains the premiere “Heat Of The Moment” with the highest quality. Its monumental value is unshakable, but if I had to add one more thing, the atmosphere of the concert on the ship is also a point. It is a difficult project to do in Japan, and it is very valuable to be able to experience that mood. Although it is a little small, the venue is spacious with a solid stage and up to the second floor. And the atmosphere of the audience listening in an orderly manner, the sense of intimacy, and the sense of being in a closed room, which is hard to believe in North America.
